INTERSECTION is an exciting gathering of Indigenous artists, entrepreneurs and academics uniting to share their success stories with students and aspiring entrepreneurs. The free conference will provide practical tools and workshops for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as an opportunity to meet individuals who have found ways to make their businesses sustainable financially, socially and environmentally.
Keynote speaker Dr. Jessica Metcalfe (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) is the author of the blog www.beyondbuckskin.com and the owner of the Beyond Buckskin Boutique. Dr. Metcalfe will speak about the Indigenous fine art market, the challenges of small businesses and how entrepreneurship can address local and global social issues.
Three panel discussions will explore emerging business ideas and approaches that use social innovation:
- 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games: Indigenous representation and enterprise at the games
- The local assets for social enterprise
- How can young social entrepreneurs achieve scale?
A series of practical workshops using design thinking and new business models will give attendees a chance to test their ideas for growing and sustaining their businesses.
