Mr Harper seems to be tuning into the same mentality as the guy who came up with the quote below;
“Deprive the people of their national consciousness, treat them as a tribe and not a nation, dilute their national pride, do not teach their history, propagate their language as inferior, imply they have a cultural void, emphasise their customs are primitive, and dismiss independence as a barbaric anomaly”.
Reinhard Heydrich, Hitler’s Head of Gestapo.
I found this quote in an article relating to the present growth in those supporting Scottish independence from the UK (bring it on!)
From my own perspective as a Scot with Irish roots (Celtic peoples who originally were strongly communitarian with a strong spiritual coneection to our lands
and while many of us were part of the problem many millions more were victims of it) the commodification of life itself- to sate a form of greed which is in itself insatiable, namely the free market economy, will soon be in its death throes (hopefully) and will inevitably eat itself.
Capitalism, as we thought we understood it, was about trickle down economics. Now its all trickle up with vast and growing gaps in wealth between the rich and the poor. They turn the sacred into the profane all for the sake of the quick buck. The political and economic culture of the present time has at its head people who are are unworthy of such power, many of them should actually be in prison if you look deep enough. They have no vision, no long term strategies and live in a self referential bubble where the bottom line is king. They are financial terrorists. People who are not in the bubble are regarded as mere pawns, are demonised and therefor deemed as expendable. Other species that dwell on our earth don’t even figure. Now is a bad time to be a child and it will be worse in the near future if we don’t come up with alternatives.

so many people – especially the younger ones we need to reach – use mobile devices to get online info, so a version that works better on mobile screens would be great too

thank you for making this! … it works
well here on the
site :~) but could I put in a request for you to make a more FB-friendly version? a) stats show people hardly ever click, so you’re losing the attention of a
of potentially interested folks who see a tiny preview image and don’t know what it is (I’m even hearing feedback from Native journalists about it); b) an infographic shouldn’t need an explanatory line on FB – they work because the images catch our attention. people on FB don’t like to read, the entire infographic should show and be readable in a post; c) the Harper image is powerful and gets attention – for a revised post-friendly version, maybe put it at the top under a banner of “I’m Terminating You”? d) the turntable is beautiful and eloquent, but people have seen it before, and it doesn’t tell them this particular story – maybe move it to the bottom, make it a logo, or even not use it on a slimmed-down version?; e) revise/move the “Find out if
community’s gonna get terminated” up to the top – that’s going to grab people and get them to read further. it makes it specific and immediate rather than just one more awful thing Harper’s doing. you can add something about ‘domino effect" – so even if the viewer’s own community is safe for now, it won’t be if they don’t help stop this; f) for the FB version, boil the text down to its purest essence – what specific message and what specific action are key?; g) I think one of the most powerful arguments against Termination (for folks that have been reading the spin that it’s a win for “land ownership” and “self-determination,” and the glowing articles about the Terminated) is that Harper is pushing for it so hard – it might be a good point to make – how can it really be so good for First Nations if he wants it so bad, why are we drinking his koolaid?; h) maybe most importantly, can you give specific examples of what real communities have given up through Termination – not conceptually, but how it’s changed the way activities are managed, land is accessed, protections are erased, children are losing out for the future? I think that’s really going to make people sit up and make this stop. I’m thinking about things like the Tlicho’s Bathurst caribou (though I’m not sure that was “Termination” itself …). Please understand these suggestions are made
to be positive – you’ve created a great tool, and it would be awesome for it to create little ones that will be effective in other settings :~)

It has never made much sense to me that many social justice groups to go Parliament Hill to advocate for human rights yet they have no idea or appreciation that the Algonquin of Ontario are about to extinguish their Indigenous rights through imposed colonial policy. Stop the
