Idle No More Potluck Workshop

The Idle No More movement belongs to all of us. It isn’t only about Indigenous peoples (although they hold the key to many of the critical environmental issues in this country). It is about ending our apathy, and fighting (peacefully, with information and understanding) to preserve not only our environment, but to preserving the possibility of a good, healthy, and safe life for our children and grandchildren.

Let’s get together to share our passion and information. We all have a perspective to share, stories full of wisdom (even if we don’t realize it) and the need to feel connected to something greater than our individual selves. Also, we all love good food!

The subjects of discussion will be arrived at by the group. Whatever issues surface as being of vital importance to the group will be shared. This could include the environment, First Nation, Métis, Inuit, LGBT, Two-Spirited, the current government/political strategies, Treaties, education, human rights, women’s issues and others.

There will be a few very short video presentations (most during food breaks) but the rest will be organic, facilitated, strength-based discussion. Spirit Bridge’s three guiding principles will be respected – Honouring the Spirit, Strengthening the Community, and Celebrating the Success.

By making it potluck we can keep it free of charge for participants – and there’s no better way to start sharing than with food! If each person brings only 3 portions of something, we will surely have plenty to enjoy!

Very much hoping that you will join us. The more perspectives, the richer the discussion, the greater the impact.

Please join the event, and if you happen to know of a venue we could use - please post or message so that we can arrange it. Please also share with any friends and family you have in the Ottawa area. We can make transportation arrangements from just about anywhere in the Kingston - Ottawa - Montreal corridor.

Thank you / Miigwetch

    Two more days!

About the food… please bring three portions of food (one for you and two to share). This way there won’t be an overload of leftovers (and waste) but everyone will be able try something different.

Plates, cutlery, napkins, cups and some cold beverages will be provided. Some serving utensils will also be available.

As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch (613) 818-8130 or if you have any questions.

Hello again everyone! The days are trickling by, and I am very much looking forward to meeting you all.

The forecast is sunny but not too hot, so we will likely be able to take advantage of both the urban micro-forest/park setting, as well as the cozy log cabin living room, of the Old Forge venue.

A map has been posted on our FB page you can also email for a copy of the map.

Please remember to drive safely, and if you miss the driveway (unlikely, but possible) DON’T PANIC – just take your next available right, and keep turning right until you regain the Pinecrest to Carling loop. You can also pull over to call (613) 818-8130 and we’ll guide you in :)

To anyone still considering whether or not to come (or maybe considering cancelling) – the promise I make is that you will meet some inspiring people, and you are guaranteed to learn something valuable. Also, others are guaranteed to learn and benefit from your being there. Please spend part of your Saturday with us.

    Warmest regards,

    Hello again everyone,

We have our location confirmed, the outline and materials have been prepared, and I couldn’t be more excited to see you all on the 10th (only 9 days away!).

We are asking everyone to arrive at the Old Forge around 9:30am on Saturday August 10th in order to get the food laid out/put away in the Kitchen, distribute materials and get things like name tags sorted out. A message will follow closer to the day with directions to the Old Forge (it’s a little tricky, since you can only turn into the parking lot if you are Eastbound on Carling Ave approaching the Richmond Road intersection.)

If you require assistance (pickup / dropoff by car, assistance with mobility, hearing or seeing support, etc…) please do not hesitate to get in touch. There is an abundance of assistance available.

An outline (or agenda) of the day’s activities can be found on our website. Please follow this link to view and/or print it out.

Thank you all again for supporting, and being part of, this activity. It means the world to, well, the world (myself included).

    Warmest regards,

  • Jessica Fortier
