JUNE 26th June 26th marks a day in Oglala History. A day of sadness. As lives were lost and lives were forever changed. June 26th marks a day of Remembrance. To remember Joe Kills Rights” Stuntz, shot by a sniper and his death still un–investigated 38 years later. To remember Leonard Peltier, who for the last 38 years has been locked away with any evidence that could free him, locked away too. . And also there were the lives of William and Coler. Life is sacred. June 26th marks a day to bring awareness to the over 60 unsolved murders that happened on this Reservation over 38 years ago, the families of these victims still wait for closure. We remember them. Tribal officials have asked the Attorney General Brandon Johnson to take a new look at these files. Prayer go out to the families, that the rehashing of old memories and pain will not be in vain. June 26th marks a day where we stand with Leonard. To let him know he is not forgotten after 38 years. A day which brings him some sort of joy. I am not sure joy is the right word here, but to know that people still stand for him, remember him and seek his freedom and love him, after 38 years. Division went on 38 years ago, and still goes on today. While we are busy fighting each other, bad things slip by. We don’t have to like each other, but we must stay United to fight the real issue. The poisons: alcohol , drugs to abuse to the very Water, Air and Food needed to live on. For if these things are not protected, there will be no future generation. June 26th marks a day to Unite. Unite to remember, Unite to pay respect to Mother Earth, to the Rivers and lakes that nourish us. But most of all Unite in Leonard’s name. Our action reflect on him. Now is the time to Free Leonard Peltier.. So he can spend his remaining time on earth enjoying his children, grand children and great grandchildren. We shall remain Idle No More for The Release of Leonard Peltier. “To heal would require real effort, and a change of heart, from all of us. To heal means that we will begin to look upon one another with respect and tolerance instead of prejudice, distrust and hatred. We will have to teach our children and our children’s children, as well as ourselves to love the diversity of humanity. To heal we must made a conscious effort to live as Creator intended, as sisters and brothers, all of one family, caretakers of this fragile, perishable, and Scared Earth. To heal we will have to come to the realization that we are all under a life sentence together….and there’s no chance of parole. We can do it. Yes, you and I, and all of us together. Now is the Time. Now is the only possible time.” “LET THE GREAT HEALING BEGIN”From Prison Writings. Leonard Peltier.
