Ally to Indigenous People Photograph Call-Out

In celebration of Idle No More's One Year Anniversary: Ally to Indigenous People Photograph Call-Out

Are you an ally to the Indigenous peoples call for clean air, clean water, and clean land?

Do you understand the difference between equity and equality?

Do you understand the need for genuine solidarity and the idea of “Follow the Turtle” where the needs of the most oppressed such as Indigenous women, children, elders, and person with disabilities are placed first where your needs are secondary?

See: http://thefeministwire.com/2013/04/clearing-the-path-for-the-turtle/

Do you understand the concept, “He stood in front of her to stand behind her to assure the circle of life”? As in the practice of Mi'KMmaq Seven Bernard during the Elsipogtog stand and protest for clean land and water.

Are you an ally to the Indigenous people who are on the front lines protesting for the right for clean air, water, and land?

Do you understand that Indigenous people are entitled to their jurisdiction of their land and resources?

Do you understand that by standing behind the most oppressed you assure emancipation for all?

If you answered “yes” to these questions great you are appreciated as an Indigenous ally who values Indigenous rights and the need for genuine solidarity.

In the Indigenous tradition knowledge in practice is valuable, possibly more valuable than knowledge that is only thought and talked about. It is “knowledge in practice” that will create the change needed. Said another way, knowledge requires performance and action.

In the Anishinaabeg tradition it was Winonah’s second son – Pukawiss – who gifted the Art of Performance to the earth’s people. Pukawiss learned many things about natural law from the animal beings and would perform the knowledge for people.

In honour of Pukawiss’ method of "knowledge in practice and performance" we are asking Indigenous allies to send their photographs of them involved in on-site protesting where in their appreciation and practice of genuine solidarity they stand behind Indigenous people and their effort, and call for Canada, to protect the land rather.

Past and current photographs are welcome. Please know that we are looking for photographs of people on the front lines of change.

Also, it is preferred that your signage read something to the effect of:

I support Idle No More (INM)
I am an ally
Settler ally acting in solidarity
I support Indigenous people
Honour the Treaties
I am a Treaty Person
Parliament Hill squats on Algonquin Land
Dirty Water? Frack Off
Let the Turtle Lead

Post your photographs on this event wall.

Deadline: November 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm (maybe extended)

At a later date the photographs will be compiled into an album for circulation and potentially transformed into a grassroots video production. In posting your photograph on this wall you agree to this. If you do not agree - please do not post your photographs here.

Note: Sorry photographs with photographer’s trademark or copy right will not be included.

Note: Only photographs sent in by the person in the photograph will be accepted.

Chi-Miigwetch for understanding the need for genuine solidarity.
